Kate WIP 1

9 x 12 graphite pencil on Bristol Smooth paper. I am starting this drawing over. This is a drawing of artist Kate Zambrano. She is an amazing artist who inspires me in so many ways. I first draw on plain old printer paper. Why? Because I erase a lot, I used to damage my actual drawing paper, which is more expensive. By drawing first on printer paper, I don’t have to worry about damaging my more expensive drawing paper. Once I am content with my line drawing (I say content because I’m never really happy with my work, always room to improve). I then tape transfer paper to the back of the printer paper with my line drawing and then tape it to my Bristol Smooth paper, which is my favorite type of paper to draw on. My line drawing is the foundation of my drawing process, I also call this the ugly stage of my process because my line drawing is quickly drawn and looks like a 2 year old did it. I also use my line drawing to map out where I want not only the features of the face, but light and shadow as well. Now that my line drawing is complete, I can now bring Kate to life on paper by adding tone and texture. To see her work, visit her website at https://www.katezambrano.com/
