9 x. 12 graphite pencil on Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper. I have one eye complete, for pencils I’m using Pentel GraphGear 1000 mechanical pencils with 4H, 2H, H, HB, B, 2B, and 4B leads. I layer my graphite by making tiny overlapping circular motions with my pencil. I first make a light layer of tone using a 4H lead. Once I exhaust the tone, I then move up to 2H and repeat the process. I then go to H and repeat so on and so forth up to 4B. By layering my graphite, I’m able to achieve a nice smooth and natural contrast between light and dark. I will now begin working on the right eye, screen’s left which I’ll show in my next update.
